The 2010-11 season was again one of highs and lows. At times the senior side showed that on its day they could beat any side in the league but unfortunately inconsistency cost us a place in the semi finals of the Skilton Trophy (one day competition) losing our final game to the lower ranked Addington.
The new Twenty20 format, that was introduced this season, was well recieved and Sumner performed well but unfortunately losing the one vital game against overall winners Halswell cost us a spot in the final.
As for the two day format Sumner were unbeaten and making a late charge towards the lead before the February earthquake hit. We had a good lead on Merivale going into the 2nd day and had Hornby to play and had we won that match we would be set up for a final showdown with leaders Halswell in the final round. But due to the earthquake the season ended prematurely so we finished in 3rd place.
This season had many highlights for individuals below are some of these.
-Dan Vann's maiden (100) senior hundred vs New Brighton
-Chris Wilson's 116 not out vs New Brighton and 91 vs Heathcote
-Andrew Vann's 72 vs Heathcote and 75 vs Southern Districts
-Nathan Columbus taking 7-1 vs Merivale Pap
-Marcus Thompson's 6 wicket haul vs Merivale Pap
-Dan Vann and Scott Williams 5 fors in the same innings vs Heathcote
-Chris Wilson scoring the most runs in the league.
-Andrew Bird collecting the CSCA Most Promising Batsmen Award
-CSCA Suburban Rep team: Chris Wilson, Dan Vann and Nathan Columbus
-CSCA Development XI: Dan Vann (captain), Andrew Bird, Nathan Columbus.
-Jackson Prisk and Andrew Bird's 100 run stand for the 8th wicket vs Addington.
Hopefully the experiences gained from this season and if we are able to retain our core group of players with one or two good recruits Sumner will be in good stead for the 2011-12 season. I'd like to thank all members of the team for their committment and efforts this season as well as those players that helped us out when required from 3As and/or ex players.
