Feb 2010 - Club Captain

Hey there team!

The quiz night has had to change dates. It will now take place on the Sunday the 28th of March!

This will give you plenty of time to get a team together! If all members could either be in a team of their own or organise a team to be there, then this event will be incredibly successful. Please do make an effort, it really doesn't take much to ask friends, workmates, family etc to get a team of 4 people together for a beer and answer a few questions for a night.

Thank you very much to Dave Cox and Brendan Fahey who have already offered to donate prizes. If anyone or anyone you know might be interested in donating a prize please let me know.

Also it is coming into the final third/quarter of the season and there are many subs outstanding! Please don't make us chase you individually,

Also if you have trophies from last season we need to start collecting these again.

Cheers guys and good luck for the remaining cricket left in the season.

Regards

Dan Vann

Jan 2010 - Club Captain

Hello Sumner club members and supporters. I hope the new year has started well for everyone!

A few reminders that I would quickly mention.

I know everyone gets sick of the constant reminders about paying subs but it is becoming a real problem now! We have a seriously large amount of outstanding subs that must be paid! The club does not run without this money and with sponsorship and pub charity becoming harder to get this is essential income to the club. It is over halfway through the season now and we need this to come in please. Remember you can easily make payments if required. Don't leave it too late for this to happen!

Quiz night- We are looking at having a quiz night at the Ferrymead Speights Ale House (likely date the 22nd of Feb). So start thinking about getting a team together and if you or someone you know that may like to donate some prizes please let us know.

Pitch- Des our legendary groundsmen has had some problems down at St Leonards with Vandalism on the pitch by young kids on bikes and skate boards ripping up the pitch. If you see this happening or know someone that might have done this could you please talk to them/their parents or us. It is very frustrating for Des to put in the endless hours to make some of the best wickets in Christchurch and careless people continue to cause problems and extra work. The recent damage has put the wicket in doubt for the rep game this sunday.

Rep game- This Sunday there is a rep game being played St Leonards (Suburban development XI vs Canterbury Country development XI). Sumner will be well represented with Scott Williams, Marcus Thompson and I playing for the Suburban team. It is a 50 over one day match starting at 10.30 so if your free for a few hours pop down. Your support would be much appreciated.

Other than that, I think that is all I need to say. All the best for everyone this weekend and the rest of the season. Hopefully 2010 can see some silverware in the cabinet!

Cheers

7th September 2009 - Club Captain Welcome

Hello Sumner Supporters, players and friends of the club.

It's Dan Vann here and if you don't know me I am this years club captain and also the senior captain. This is the new email address (sumnercricket@gmail.com) I will be using for all Sumner Cricket related stuff. I will still be checking the other email (sports_dan@hotmail.com) regularly so it is no drama which you send to. If you are no longer involved in the club and would not like to be on this list any longer please let me know so I can take your email off this list.

With the new season less than a month away now I just thought I would send an email out to give everyone a heads up to whats happening at the club and to of course remind you of a few things and hopefully get you excited about the upcoming season.
We are always on the look out for new players so if you have any family, work mates or friends that you might think would be interested please ask them to come down or contact me or your team captain.

Preseason training has already begun (great turn out tonight by the way boys!) so for those not aware of these training times they are:
September: Sunday 13th - Wednesday 16th - Sunday 27th - Wednesday 30th
These trainings are held at the CCA indoor training facility on Iverson Tce from 8pm to10pm on all nights. We only have one lane booked so please let me know if you are interested in coming down so we can ensure we aren't over crowded.

Also the club is always on the look out for new sponsors (big or small, any and every contribution is appreciated). We can offer potential sponsors benefits such as, advertising on our very professional website www.sumnercricket.co.nz as well as possibly around the club/ground and the brand new newsletter that is soon to be launched and will be sent to many people in the community. We can also discuss other ideas. Our website is in the process of being updated from last season so make sure you check it out once this has been updated!

On another note the senior team will be travelling to Blenhiem this year at the end of Sept to compete in a 20/20 preseason tournament against HSOB, Heathcote and the local hosts Wairau. If you are interested in being involved in this and you haven't already told me, please let me know.

Anyway thats enough rambling from me. I hope you are all enjoying this spring weather and look forward to catching up with you all soon! Cheers

15th July 2009 - Annual Report

Hello Sumner Club members,

Just to make you all aware of the upcoming Sumner Cricket Club Annual General Meeting 2009 and changes to the constitution.

This will take place on Tuesday 21st of July 7.30pm at Sumner Cricket Clubrooms, St Leonards Sqaure. All club members (new and old) are welcome and encouraged to attend. The annual report will soon follow the meeting once printed.

While I have your attention. The 2009/10 season is under 3 months away and preseason training starts in late August also. So it would be great if you could let me or your captain know if you will be available this coming season or not. Last season was a tough season in terms of player availability and we want to get this sorted early this season so we can have reasonable squad numbers for each team so we won't have to do the end of the week scramble to get 11 players for each team. If we sort this problem obviously the results should improve also as players will be playing more regularly and as a team.

We have already got a few new players on the cards but we would ideally like to maintain our current players as well as gain a few new lads.

Anyway guys just a wee reminder and we hope to see some of you at the AGM!

Cheers
Dan Vann
Club Captain

April 2008 - Webmaster
Hi

End of season. Look forward to the 2008 and 2009 season. Feel free to leave any suggestions for the website. Thanks.

March 2008 - Presidents report
Hi all

With only two weeks of cricket remaining, the Fourth C team is in an unbeatable position in their grade. Congratulations on behalf of the club. At least one piece of silverware will come our way. Who knows at this stage, if we will be successful in the Umpires Trophy or the prestigious Melhuish Shield!

The Senior team will be reflecting on what could have been had it not been for a loss to Halswell, Brighton and Southern Districts in the one day round and then a rain washed out round in the two day competition against Richmond, a vital 16 points. Here’s hoping that you can hold your head up high and dig deep to give Brighton a run for their money in the last round to close up the table on points and finish a close second. You have already risen to the challenge in the round robin play.

The Third A team has played some good cricket since the team finally pulled off their first win about six weeks into the competition. They will finish hopefully in the top half of the competition. The Presidents team continues to field a competitive team each week with mixed results. At this point of time, they have won more games than lost.

Unfortunately rain has been the winner on more than one occasion this season; in fact we have seen five Saturdays lost through rain. Fingers crossed for the remaining two weeks.

The clubrooms are beckoning on the final night of competition on 15 March 2008 and to celebrate this, pack up your gear in your old kit bag and smile, smile, smile and head to St Leonards Square. There will be a BBQ available. The club is having a working bee this Sunday (16th) between 10-12.30 any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

The end of year function will be held at the Sandbar 7pm on the 4th of April. The club hope all new members enjoyed their first season with the club and hope that we will see you back next year.

Our junior section has continued to run under the helm of Graeme Kearney and team. Thanks for organising the coaches and teams in the junior grades.

I would like to thank again our sponsors who have provided funding to assist the club. Without their support, the club would struggle to survive.

Finally, best wishes for the final two weeks of cricket, and hope everyone enjoys themselves.

Ray Steele (President)

13th December 2007 - END OF YEAR BBQ
Hi all

Last game of Cricket this weekend (for the Junior teams) before the break. Hope everyone has been enjoying their games.

The club is hosting a BBQ on Saturday 22 December starting at about 5pm. The Sumner Senior Men's team is playing a home game so come earlier and support them if you can. The bar will be open of course.

Hope to see some of you there. Once the main game is finished I am sure we can organise a game for the kids.

Cheers Graeme

1st December 2007 - One more win for the presidents
The team is going through some unheard of success this year. Playing OBC Gold we batted first and made 177 for 5. Handly contributions from Hooper(47), Booth(39), McConnell(22) and Boreham(15) + Ridley(16) both not out.
Bowling second we struggled to get many early wickets and halfway through their innings we were all getting a little worried. But great bowling by Hooper(8-1-16-4) and Booth (8-1-29-3) ment they fell well short in the end. All out for 133. Well after the game had finished we discovered that hoops had done a hatrick. I guess we were just too intent on the victory.
We are currently 4th on the points table after only losing two games this year.

9th November 2007 - Website information
We are still looking for people from the senior, three A's and 4th Division teams to provide information for team pages. This includes keeping track of the top 10 performances and to input weekly stats for your team.
If you think you might be able to help then Please let me know. web@sumnercricket.co.nz

15th October 2007 - BAD WEATHER RUINS CRICKET
For most people the cricket was cancelled on Saturday. At least the weather was nice for a day outside.
Fingers crossed the weather will allow us to play next weekend.

6th October 2007 - DAN VANNS CANADA BLITZ
This year Sumner has had a representative playing in Canada , Dan Vann has spent the off season playing cricket for Cowichan Cricket Club (the same club Brendan Fahey played for in 1990 & 1991) on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. They have two overseas players per season and Dan was fortunate enough to be one this year, Gareth Sanders being the other (a former junior member of the club).

The league is an 8 team competition playing in the Victoria District Association League. Cowichan managed to sneak its way into the finals last spot 4th, due to the 3rd placed ALCOS losing points due to their involvement in a brawl. They then beat the top team COLTS by 7 wickets and then toppled Albion in the final by a massive 8 wickets in 21 overs. Dan Scored 127 not out in the final from 54 balls, and took 3-45 from 8 overs.

Dan also made the Victoria rep team that played against Vancouver. He lead the league on runs scoring 763 runs @ an average of 58.63 and took the most wickets in the league with 30 wickets.
