2005/06 was a very momentous season for the sumner cricket club. We celebrated our centenary season of one hundred years!

What a fantastic achievement! Waitangi weekend was when the celebrations were held and fittingly the Sumner Senior side was to host the One Day Final of the Skilton Trophy to cap off the weekend.

Throughout the weekend past and present players celebrated this prestigious occasion over a beer, dinner, social match, and supporting the senior side on its way to successfully winning the Skilton Trophy!.

This game was a great way to bring the club together. The Present team was fortunate enough to bat first (A few of the young boys were a little hung over from the centenary dinner the previous night). They amassed a reasonable total before then taking the field.

The past players started very slowly but grafted away and maintained wickets before taking the game away from the present 11 throughout the middle and end of the match. The past finally stole the victory from the final ball with a well struck boundary to take a well deserved victory.

The stage was set for the perfect celebration for the club, with all resting on the Senior side to come through and seal the victory all had come to see.

Sumner one the toss and batted on a good hard St Leonards Square block. After a poor start some solid batting from Ben Yock and Matt Henderson turned the performance around. They together put on an impressive partnership before losing the wicket of Henderson.

Yock was then joined by Leigh Percasky who showed real maturity for an 18 year old with solid defence and turning the strike over to Yocky as he began to take control of the match continuing with his fine form from Saturday (124*against New Brighton). Sumner begun to take the game out Heathcote's control when nearing the final ten overs Sumner lost the wicket of Percasky. At that point Yock then took full control with some belligerent hitting and some good support from the torsoe! Yock finishing with magnificent 111 a man of the match performance.

In reply Heathcote were always under the pump with a high run rate to chase and regular loss of wickets meant they were unable to push the demanding total set by Sumner. Andrew Vann opened the bowling with a very tidy 3-44 off his ten overs. Kieren Hartley in possibly his last game for Sumner bowled economically and tied down Heathcote's middle order. Eventually all Heathcote could do was capitulate and Sumner won a well earned victory. WELL DONE BOYS
